It appears to be just a matter of time before Christophe Galtier takes the reins at Paris Saint-Germain.

It's understood that the French champions will attempt to appoint Galtier, who coached Nice last season, to be Mauricio Pochettino's replacement as manager within the next week, according to The Athletic's Adam Crafton.

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was reportedly the front-runner to succeed Pochettino, who departed earlier this month after 18 months in Paris. But Zidane prefers to coach France's national team if head coach Didier Deschamps departs after the 2022 World Cup later this year, Crafton adds.

Galtier is set to join PSG after the 55-year-old's impressive debut season at Nice. He led the club to an unexpected fifth-place finish during his lone season in the south of France.

PSG are reportedly negotiating a compensation package with Nice that they hope to finalize in the coming days.

Galtier's expected arrival would see the French coach reunite with new PSG sporting director Luis Campos, who replaced Leonardo earlier this month. Galtier and Campos worked together for Lille.

At Lille, Galtier attracted widespread praise after he guided the club to a surprise Ligue 1 title in 2020-21.
