UFC parts ways with Hardy on heels of losing streak

The Greg Hardy experiment is over.

The UFC opted not to re-sign the heavyweight after he fought out his contract earlier in March, the promotion confirmed to MMA Fighting's Damon Martin.

Hardy lost his final three fights in the Octagon, most recently suffering a first-round TKO defeat to Serghei Spivac at UFC 272.

"The Prince of War" hinted last weekend in an Instagram post that he was no longer on the roster, saying "what a run" and thanking the UFC for letting him "shine bright."

The former NFL defensive end transitioned to MMA in 2017 and made his professional debut in 2018. He fought as a pro three times - including twice on "Dana White's Contender Series" - before signing with the UFC and debuting with the promotion in January 2019.

Hardy showed promise early in his UFC career, going 2-1 (1 NC) over his first four appearances. But he ultimately struggled whenever he took steps up in competition, which became a trend until the end of his Octagon tenure.

Hardy's last three outings - against Spivac, Tai Tuivasa, and Marcin Tybura - all ended by first-round knockout or TKO. His most recent win came against Maurice Greene in 2020.
