Xavier and head coach Travis Steele are parting ways after four seasons with him at the helm, the school announced Wednesday.

Steele went 70-50 with the program, failing to advance to an NCAA Tournament after his predecessor Chris Mack did so eight times in nine seasons.

The 40-year-old became Xavier's head coach in 2015 after Mack left for Louisville. He was previously an assistant with the school, following stops on the bench at Indiana and Ohio State.

Expectations were high for the 2021-22 season in Cincinnati, but an 8-11 mark in Big East play followed by a first-round exit in the conference tournament pushed the 19-13 Musketeers to the NIT.

Xavier is currently in the middle of its tournament after defeating Cleveland State on Tuesday. The Musketeers will face the winner of Iona-Florida on the weekend.

Stadium's Jeff Goodman suggests that both Mack and Sean Miller could be candidates for the open spot. The former Arizona bench boss was Xavier's head coach before Mack.
