Report: Ausmus not interested in Mets job

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Brad Ausmus is pulling his name out of the running for the New York Mets' managerial gig, though the Boston Red Sox remain an option, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

The Mets were reportedly interested in the former Detroit Tigers skipper, according to Peter Gammons of The Athletic on Saturday.

However, with Ausmus apparently out of the running, the Mets will have to look elsewhere to fill the void caused by former skipper Terry Collins joining the front office.

Meanwhile, the 48-year-old Ausmus interviewed with the Red Sox on Monday, according to Chad Jennings of the Boston Herald.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski is familiar with Ausmus, after originally hiring him prior to the 2014 season while at the helm of the Tigers.
