Mousasi to defend Bellator title vs. Salter in August
Gegard Mousasi will face John Salter in the Bellator 264 main event on Aug. 13 in his next middleweight title defense, the promotion announced Friday.
Mousasi defeated then-welterweight champion Douglas Lima last October to capture the vacant 185-pound belt. He previously held the title from May 2018 to June 2019. The 35-year-old is riding a two-fight winning streak and has only lost once since 2015.
Salter has won three straight bouts, most recently submitting Andrew Kapel last August. The No. 1-ranked middleweight also holds notable victories over Costello van Steenis and Chidi Njokuani, and his lone loss in Bellator came against former champ Rafael Lovato Jr. - who beat Mousasi for the title - in 2018.
Mousasi holds a 5-1 record in Bellator, while Salter is 8-1.
Bellator 264 is set to take place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The promotion has yet to announce any other fights for the card.
