NBA, Fortnite team up for crossover event
The NBA is coming to Fortnite.
To coincide with the start of the NBA playoffs, the league has partnered with Fortnite on an event called "Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover" that kicks off Wednesday. Players will be able to suit up for all 30 teams and visit an "NBA Welcome Hub" in Fortnite's Creative Mode.
The crossover event will also feature "Fortnite x NBA Team Battles," a five-day competition where players complete challenges as an NBA team for a chance to earn in-game rewards and currency. There will be "Locker Bundles" as well featuring items selected by Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.
"Video game culture is certainly a shared passion across many of our NBA players and our fans worldwide, as well as for our leagues," NBA senior vice president, global partnerships Matt Holt told ESPN. "Additionally, as we continue to engage our fans, the best approach is to meet them where they are, in creating personal and authentic experiences."
This isn't the first collaboration between Fortnite and a major sports league. In 2018, Fortnite partnered with the NFL to add jerseys for its 32 teams to the game.
