With the bases loaded, two outs, and George Springer coming to the plate against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon, David Price was not ready to give up the ball - even if the call to the bullpen was actually made.
Price entered the game with the Red Sox leading 5-2 to clean up teammate Carson Smith's mess. The left-hander retired Brian McCann (thanks to some sparkling defense from Brock Holt) and Cameron Maybin before walking Tyler White to load the bases.
As manager John Farrell approached the mound, it appeared that Price was coming out of the game as Addison Reed trotted out of the bullpen. But Farrell quickly waved him back to the 'pen after a brief chat with Price, who wound up striking out Springer on three pitches.
If the Red Sox defeat the Astros, they'll win the American League East.
