Jason Castro could be heading back to where his career began.

The Houston Astros are in serious talks with the veteran free-agent catcher, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, who adds a deal could be completed soon.

Drafted 10th overall by the Astros in 2008, Castro played six seasons in Houston through 2016 and earned an All-Star selection in 2013. After leaving the Astros via free agency, Castro signed a three-year, $24.5-million contract with the Minnesota Twins as one of the game's premier pitch-framing catchers.

The 33-year-old split the 2020 campaign between the Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres, hitting .188/.293/.375 with two homers over 27 games.

Houston currently employs Martin Maldonado as its primary catcher. The 34-year-old former Gold Glove winner hit .215/.350/.378 with six homers and one steal in 47 games last season.
