Washington Wizards point guard John Wall issued an apology Sunday after he was captured on video throwing up gang signs during a party in New York City.

"First and foremost I want to apologize to my family, my teammates, and all of those that have always supported me," Wall wrote on Twitter. "I made a mistake, something I regret. I will continue to work hard to be better on the court and, more importantly, off the court."

Wall flashed a similar gang sign during a playoff game against the Atlanta Hawks in 2015.

The former first overall pick hasn't played in an NBA contest since Dec. 26, 2018, after undergoing season-ending surgery to remove bone spurs in his heel. He also tore his left Achilles tendon in February 2019.

Wall owns averages of 19 points, 9.2 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 573 career games.
