Daniel Cormier suffered a torn cornea due to an eye poke from Stipe Miocic during their UFC 252 main event bout Saturday, Cormier told ESPN's Ariel Helwani.

Cormier, who confirmed his retirement after his unanimous decision loss to Miocic, won't need surgery straight away and was discharged from the hospital Saturday night.

The former double champion doesn't have a timetable for recovery and could still undergo a procedure depending on how well his left eye heals.

Cormier said post-fight that he lost all of his vision after the third-round eye poke.

Cormier was widely criticized for eye pokes during his first two bouts with Miocic. The reigning heavyweight champion was sidelined with a major retinal injury after the second fight last year.

The referee of Saturday's fight, Marc Goddard, apologized to "DC" for missing the poke.
