The San Diego Padres have released second baseman Brian Dozier, the team announced Saturday.

The Padres signed the former All-Star to a minor-league contract in February but did not include him in the team's player pool.

In eight games this spring, Dozier went 5-for-22 with three walks and nine strikeouts.

Dozier became a World Series champion last season as a member of the Washington Nationals. Over his eight-year career - which he's predominantly spent with the Minnesota Twins - Dozier has hit .245/.326/.442 with 192 homers and 105 steals.
