Golden State Warriors guard Damion Lee battled his way onto an NBA roster after going undrafted in 2016, and he wishes people recognized him as a player first, rather than as teammate Stephen Curry's brother-in-law.

"At the end of the day, my name is Damion Lee," he told reporters Thursday, including Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle. "It doesn’t matter who I’m married to. I played basketball before I’ve been married to who I am.

"I want people to respect that. I work hard for this shit. At the end of the day, I’ve battled. I’ve battled. I’m battle-tested. Going through a broken hand, two ACLs."

Lee married the two-time MVP's younger sister, Sydel, in 2018. Beforehand, he had a stellar four-year career at Drexel, which culminated in All-CAA first-team honors during his senior year in 2014-15.

The 26-year-old was a grad transfer at Louisville the following season and averaged a team-high 15.9 points on 42.8% shooting.

As a rookie with the Atlanta Hawks in 2017-18, Lee averaged 10.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals across 15 appearances.

He inked a two-way deal this offseason to remain in Golden State. Lee spent a good chunk of the 2018-19 campaign with the Warriors' G League affiliate, posting 20.3 points and six boards in 24 games.

Entering his third NBA season, Lee wants the media's focus to remain on basketball whenever he's at work.

"I just want to lay that out on the line right now, that going forward this year, there’s no family questions," Lee said. "When I’m here in between the lines - my 9 to 5, this is my job - I’m thankful, I’m blessed, I’m healthy, I love my family.

"Everybody knows I don’t have any beef with the media ... No family, there’s nothing of that sort because I worked hard to get to the spot that I am."
