Frankie Edgar targeting bantamweight debut at UFC 244
Frankie Edgar plans on making his bantamweight debut at UFC 244, according to his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who spoke with ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
Edgar (23-7-1) is coming off his third failed bid for the featherweight title, as he lost a unanimous decision to champion Max Holloway at UFC 240 last month.
By moving to bantamweight, the 37-year-old will be competing in his third weight class. Edgar previously fought in the lightweight division, where he held the title from 2010-12. The Ricardo Almeida BJJ product went 8-4 in the 145-pound division after dropping to featherweight in February 2013.
UFC 244 will take place on Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Edgar, a Toms River, New Jersey, native competed at the UFC's inaugural New York event in 2016, where he defeated Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision.
