Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson has pledged to pay for the funeral of an 11-year-old girl from South Carolina who died after a shooting, according to Nikie Mayo of The Greenville News.

Ja'Naiya Scott was fatally wounded when someone shot at her home in Anderson more than 35 times early Sunday, according to police. Her 18-year-old sister and her 11-year-old cousin were also wounded and remain hospitalized.

Lawson, who played for Clemson in college, also grew up in South Carolina and lived about 20 miles north of Anderson.

"It could have been my little sister," Lawson said Wednesday. "I've got a little sister around that age, and it could have been one of my family members."

Ja'Naiya's uncle announced at a vigil Wednesday evening that Lawson would cover the funeral costs.

No suspects have been named in the case.
