PWHL New York hires Greg Fargo as new head coach
PWHL New York hired Greg Fargo to be its new head coach, the team announced Friday.
"This league is on an exciting trajectory, and I am eager to contribute to its growth and success," Fargo said. "This is a great opportunity to continue to develop as a coach and pursue championships in the premier league of women's hockey. ... I can't wait to get started."
Fargo spent the last 12 seasons at the helm of Colgate University's women's hockey program, amassing a 255-147-34 record. The squad eclipsed the 20-win mark seven times during his tenure and clinched five NCAA Tournament berths and two Frozen Four appearances. The Raiders advanced to the championship game in 2018, falling to Clarkson 2-1 in overtime.
The 41-year-old was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Coach of the Year in 2020-21 after posting a 15-7-1 record. He also piloted the team to four straight ECAC titles from 2021-24.
"I am very proud to welcome Greg Fargo to our family," PWHL New York general manager Pascal Daoust said. "His track record of repeated successes and honors, both individually and through team victories and titles at Colgate, speaks for itself.
"The discipline and consistency demonstrated by his athletes on the ice reflect the high standards we aim to present to New York fans: A committed, dedicated group that competes with passion, focusing our collective efforts towards a single, unified goal."
PWHL New York parted ways with inaugural head coach Howie Draper in May after finishing in last place with five regulation wins, four overtime wins, three overtime losses, and 12 regulation losses.
The club secured the first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft.
