Meghan Agosta retires from Team Canada
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Meghan Agosta, who won three gold medals representing Canada at the Olympics, announced Friday she is retiring from hockey.
Agosta, 37, played for more than a decade and a half, also winning two International Ice Hockey Federation world championship gold medals and one Olympic silver. She was voted the most valuable player on home ice at the 2010 Vancouver Games.
“It’s been an honor to represent Canada, to wear the red and white with pride, and to inspire the next generation of athletes,” Agosta posted on social media. “Though my time on the ice may have come to an end, the memories and lessons learned will endure a lifetime. As I hang up my skates, I do so with a heart full of gratitude and a profound sense of accomplishment.”
In 88 games wearing Canada’s maple leaf in international play, Agosta recorded 94 points on 47 goals and 47 assists. She also spent two seasons with Montreal in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League and previously starred at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Agosta is now a full-time constable with the Vancouver Police Department, after taking a break from hockey several years ago to pursue a career in law enforcement. She balanced both from 2015 through the 2018 Olympics.
“Meghan was an invaluable asset to Team Canada on the international stage,” Hockey Canada senior manager of scouting and player development Cherie Piper said. “She used her dynamic skillset to leave an indelible mark on the hockey world, and we wish her continued success in her career with the Vancouver Police Department.”
