Rory McIlroy to donate all prize money from upcoming Irish Open to charity
Rory McIlroy will already have the home crowd behind him at this weekend's Irish Open, but now he's given fans even more reason to cheer him on.
Irish Times golf correspondent Philip Reid tweeted the information Wednesday and The Guardian correspondent Ewan Murray added a quote from McIlroy on the decision.
Tournament host Rory McIlroy will donate back whatever prizemoney he wins at the @IrishOpenGolf #DDFIrishOpen

"I'm not really playing for myself this week. I'm playing for a lot of other people."

Though the decision makes sense for McIlroy as he is hosting the event, he is following suit of the No. 1 golfer on the women's side, Lydia Ko. The 18-year-old recently donated winnings from the LPGA's North Texas Shootout to earthquake relief in Nepal.
If McIlroy wins at Royal County Down, he'll be donating £416,000.
