Last year's result

Sam Burns claimed last year's Charles Schwab Challenge with an epic comeback Sunday that saw him erase a seven-stroke deficit before winning in a playoff. Burns finished off his round of 65 with eight groups still left on the course, but significant winds drastically altered scoring down the stretch. When the dust settled, Burns' good friend Scottie Scheffler was the only one who could match his 9-under total, setting the stage for a playoff.

Burns didn't wait long to seal the deal, as the Louisiana native poured in a 38-foot bomb on the opening playoff hole to take the victory. The triumph was Burns' third of the season and saw him rise to No. 10 in the OWGR.

Block party rolls on

Brooks Koepka may have won last week's PGA Championship, but there's no question that pro Michael Block was the darling of the event. The 46-year-old became an instant fan favorite with his solid play, posting the best finish in the tournament by a club professional since 1986. His ace on the 15th hole during the final round has been viewed over 7.5-million times on Twitter, and his incredible up-and-down on the 18th secured a top-15 finish and an invite to next year's PGA Championship. His breakout performance also secured a sponsor's invite to this week's event in Texas. It'll be tough for Block to keep the energy going after last week, but the fans on the ground at Colonial will certainly be behind him.

Burns looking to double up

Only Ben Hogan has even won the Colonial back-to-back, but Burns is no stranger to thriving in a title defense. The 26-year-old has already successfully defended a title on TOUR, winning the Valspar Championship in back-to-back years. Burns is likely very happy to be back at Colonial to try and rebound from a couple of poor starts on TOUR. He missed the cut at both the Wells Fargo and PGA Championship, failing to break par in any of his four rounds played.

Dallas stars

The hockey team is currently playing in the Western Conference Final, but there'll be a pair of other stars from Dallas featuring this week at Colonial. It's a home event of sorts for Scheffler and Jordan Spieth, with the duo headlining the field at the historic event. Spieth has absolutely feasted on Colonial in 10 starts, posting a remarkable eight top-10 finishes with a victory and three second-place showings. Scheffler comes in off another strong major finish, with a tie for second at Oak Hill seeing him overtake Jon Rahm for the top spot in the OWGR.
