Spieth misses Sony Open cut after holding share of 18-hole lead
There was trouble in paradise Friday for Jordan Spieth.
With a 5-over 75 in the second round, the 29-year-old became the first player in Sony Open history to miss the cut after holding a share of the first-round lead, per Twenty First Group's Justin Ray.
But it doesn't end there. Spieth is the first player to hold an opening-round lead and miss a TOUR cut since Matt Every in 2020.
Spieth made six bogeys and just one birdie over the second round at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. He needed to make a birdie at the par-5 18th to move inside the projected cutline at 2-under. However, Spieth didn't make his 11-footer, settling for par and a missed cut.

It was a stark contrast to Thursday's round, where Spieth made seven birdies and just one bogey en route to a 6-under 64.
His fellow 18-hole co-leaders found better luck Friday. Chris Kirk jumped ahead for a solo lead at 11-under, while Taylor Montgomery is one shot back.
