Hideki Matsuyama sticking with PGA TOUR: 'This is where I belong'
Following months of speculation, Hideki Matsuyama announced Tuesday he won't join LIV Golf and will continue to play on the PGA TOUR.
"Simply, this is where I belong," he said through a translator, according to Golf Magazine's Nick Piastowksi.
Matsuyama has been linked to LIV Golf for months and reportedly turned down a nine-figure offer from the rival league in August.
LIV Golf completed its fifth event Sunday in Chicago. As each tournament approached, more and more TOUR players joined the rival league, forfeiting their ability to play on the PGA TOUR.
LIV's biggest group of signees joined in the weeks between the conclusion of the TOUR Championship and the start of the Chicago event. Then-world No. 2 Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, Joaquin Niemann, Harold Varner III, Cameron Tringale, and Anirban Lahiri became the league's newest players.
They joined a roster that already included Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Dustin Johnson.
Matsuyama is making his fifth appearance as a member of the International team in the Presidents Cup this week in Charlotte.
