Will Zalatoris, the No. 1 player on the FedEx Cup standings, withdrew from the BMW Championship in Wilmington, Delaware, during the third round with a back injury Saturday.

Zalatoris was 1-under on his round through his first four holes of the day. He briefly worked with the PGA TOUR physio on the fifth hole before deciding to withdraw.

His manager, Allen Hobbs, said in a statement that Zalatoris "tweaked" his back while playing on the third hole, per Golfweek's Adam Schupak. Despite the injury, Hobbs said Zalatoris "looks forward" to playing in next week's TOUR Championship at East Lake.

The recently turned 26-year-old was catapulted into the No. 1 spot on the FedEx Cup standings last Sunday when he grabbed his first career TOUR win with the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The TOUR Championship, the 2021-22 PGA TOUR postseason's final event, begins Thursday and will determine the FedEx Cup champion. The No. 1-ranked player on the FedEx Cup standings will enter the first round of the Championship at 10-under.
