John Deere Classic: What to know for the TOUR's trip to Illinois

Following a week in Connecticut that saw Xander Schauffele's second win of the season, the PGA TOUR heads to Illinois for the annual John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run.

Players will compete for 500 FedEx Cup points, a share of the $7.1-million purse, and - for players who haven't yet qualified - three spots in the upcoming Open Championship at St. Andrews.

Last year's result

Lucas Glover entered the final round four strokes back but fired a final-round 7-under 64 to win at TPC Deere Run. The win marked the fourth TOUR title of his career and the first in a decade.

Ryan Moore and Kevin Na finished two strokes back, while Scott Brown, Luke List, Sebastian Munoz, and Adam Schenk finished three strokes back in a tie for fourth.

The field

Glover will return to defend his title in Illinois, and he's joined by fellow recent winners of the event Dylan Frittelli and Moore.

Former world No. 1 Jason Day, Zach Johnson, and Webb Simpson are also in the field. As is rookie Sahith Theegala, coming off his runner-up finish at the Travelers last week.

Adam Hadwin, who held the lead following the first round of the U.S. Open two weeks ago en route to a top-10 finish at The Country Club, will be competing, as will fellow countryman Taylor Pendrith, who's returning from injury.

The course

TPC Deere Run is a 7,289-yard par-71 course that has hosted the John Deere Classic every year since 2000.

The course was designed by D.A. Weibring and has a "risk-reward" layout that features elevation changes, ravines, and ponds. The course sits on land that was formerly an Arabian horse farm.

Paul Goydos holds the course record with his first-round 59 in 2010.
