McIlroy on 21st TOUR win: 'One more than Norman'
It's hard enough to win once on the TOUR, let alone multiple times. But on Sunday, Rory McIlroy fired an impressive final-round 62 to successfully defend his Canadian Open title and claim his 21st TOUR win.
"Twenty-first PGA TOUR win, one more than someone else," McIlroy said to CBS' Amanda Balionis Renner on the 18th green. "That gave me a little bit of extra incentive today, and happy to get it done."
The 33-year-old entered the Canadian Open tied at 35th with Hale Irwin, Johnny Revolta, Doug Sanders, and Greg Norman on the TOUR's all-time wins list.
After being introduced Sunday to the tournament's media center as having just won his 21st title, McIlroy added, "And one more than Norman," according to TSN's Bob Weeks.
Norman is the CEO of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series that had its inaugural event this weekend in England.
The TOUR announced Thursday that it suspended all players participating in LIV events.
McIlroy has previously said he plans to stay on the PGA TOUR.
