Rory McIlroy edged out Abraham Ancer by one stroke to finish at the top of the leaderboard at Quail Hollow at 10-under. It was McIlroy's one and only win during the 2020-21 season, and his first TOUR victory in over a year.

At the time, Ancer was still looking for his maiden TOUR win, though he'd finally grab it later that season. Viktor Hovland and Keith Mitchell finished tied for third at 8-under, while Gary Woodland finished fifth at 7-under.

Defending champion McIlroy and last year's runner-up, Ancer, will both return to the tournament this week. McIlroy has won the event three times at Quail Hollow (2010, 2015, 2021), including a seven-stroke victory in 2015. However, with Quail Hollow set to host the Presidents Cup this September, the tournament will be played at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm.

McIlroy is also the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 7. Tony Finau is next at No. 18. Ancer is the only other player inside the World's top 20 competing this week.

Past winners in the field include Max Homa, Jason Day, Brian Harman, James Hahn, and Rickie Fowler.
