Louis Oosthuizen shares the U.S. Open lead with Russell Henley at 4-under par as darkness suspended play on Thursday.

Oosthuizen still has two holes to complete in his opening round, which he'll finish Friday morning before a quick turnaround to begin his second lap around Torrey Pines South Course. The South African is one start removed from finishing as a runner-up to Phil Mickelson at the PGA Championship.

Following a one-and-a-half-hour fog delay, Henley posted 67 in the morning wave for the lowest score of his U.S. Open career to hold the clubhouse lead for the majority of the day.

Brooks Koepka, a two-time U.S. Open champion, briefly held the outright lead at 4-under before two bogeys on his closing nine dropped him into a tie for fifth. He posted his sixth straight sub-par round at the U.S. Open to match Sam Snead's tournament record.

Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama, and pre-tournament favorite Jon Rahm matched Koepka's 69 to create a logjam two shots back of the leaders.

In a race against complete darkness, Rory McIlroy hustled down the 18th fairway and was rewarded with a closing birdie to shoot 1-under 70, good for a share of 11th.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard stands with Round 1 suspended:

Place Player To Par R1 Score
T1 Russell Henley -4 67
T1 Louis Oosthuizen -4 67
T3 Francesco Molinari -3 68
T3 Rafa Cabrera Bello -3 68
T5 Brooks Koepka -2 69
T5 Xander Schauffele -2 69
T5 Hayden Buckley -2 69
T5 Hideki Matsuyama -2 69
T5 Jon Rahm -2 69
T5 Sebastian Munoz -2 69

Justin Thomas (2-over), Viktor Hovland (3-over), Collin Morikawa (4-over), and Phil Mickelson (4-over) were all out early Thursday and felt the brunt of Torrey Pines' difficulty.

Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau (2-over) and 2015 winner Jordan Spieth (6-over) struggled in the afternoon session.

Players will resume Round 1 at 9:50 a.m. ET on Friday. Round 2 will begin as scheduled at 9:45 a.m.
