Spieth's confidence still high after 2nd straight near-miss
Despite coming up short for a second straight week, Jordan Spieth's confidence is still high after tying for third at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
"I'm as confident as I've been in a long time," Speith said Sunday, according to ASAP Sports. "Not only the current outlook but also looking forward."
Spieth entered the final round at Pebble Beach with a two-shot lead, but he ended up three shots shy of Daniel Berger after posting the only score of 70 or higher among the top-five finishers.
"... It's still mechanics," he said. "It's still dragging on. It's still going too long and therefore getting late into the ball and I made some really, really good swings this week under pressure and I made some not-so-good swings under pressure and there were more good ones than there were last week."
Even though his confidence is building, Spieth is still somewhat surprised after his recent results considering where he was mentally and physically not long ago.
"... If I look back at Friday night of San Diego and you tell me I was going to share the 54 and have the 54-hole lead two weeks in a row and really just fight, finish strong both weeks, I would have said you're crazy, to be honest," Spieth said.
"I was not in a great headspace following that missed cut (at Torrey Pines) and just did some really phenomenal work from Sunday through Wednesday of last week that was probably the best period of a few days of work that I've put in in a long time," he added.
Spieth has jumped up 30 spots in the world rankings to No. 62 following his consecutive weeks of strong play. He'll head to Riviera, which he called "arguably my favorite golf course in the world," in his best run of form since finishing inside the top five in back to back weeks in April 2018.
