Mickelson pars all 18 holes for 1st time in career: 'Pathetic'
Phil Mickelson played the most mundane round of his career Friday, carding 18 straight pars for the first time in Round 2 of The American Express.
The 50-year-old, who's well known for his sporadic play, accomplished the feat in his 2,201st PGA Tour round. He's made 17 pars on five occasions.
Despite his disappointment at shooting even par and missing the cut at the tournament he hosts, Mickelson is viewing the glass as half-full.
"There's a lot of positives," Mickelson said after, according to ASAP Sports. "But if you look at the scorecard, it's pathetic. I'm not denying that. But I think that it's a little bit closer than it looks."
Lefty hit 13 of 18 greens during his par-only round and, as expected, struggled to make any putts. He lost over a stroke on the greens but was 11th in the field in strokes gained: off the tee.
Mickelson finished at 2-over for the week to miss the cut by six.
