Gary Woodland withdrew from the Zozo Championship with a back injury after playing seven holes Thursday, the PGA Tour announced.

The 2019 U.S. Open champion sat at 3-under on the day but was clearly hampered by an ailment that ultimately wouldn't allow him to continue.

He played in the final group alongside Tiger Woods at last year's Zozo Championship, which Tiger won.

Woodland returned at the CJ Cup last week after taking a few weeks off to rest a torn labrum in his hip. He revealed his hip injury following a missed cut at the U.S. Open and said he was going to see a specialist on his return from Winged Foot.

It's unknown if the two injuries are related.
