Both Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka saw Nick Watney on the grounds of the RBC Heritage on Friday prior to him testing positive for COVID-19.

"(Watney) texted me actually because we had a chat on the putting green before I went out to play," McIlroy said after his round. "We were at a distance. He was just saying, 'Look, I hope I didn't get too close to you.'

"He feels badly that he was here today at the golf course ... So I said to him, if I was in your position, I probably would have been here too."

Koepka found out about Watney's positive test on the 17th hole.

"I saw him this morning. I was right next to him in the parking lot," Koepka said. "It's unfortunate Nick got it, but at the same time, hopefully, it stays with just him and doesn't spread because I think we'll have a big issue on our hands if it keeps going as the weeks continue."

Watney arrived at Harbour Town Golf Links and revealed he was experiencing symptoms consistent with the coronavirus. He was administered a test and was later forced to withdraw from the tournament prior to Round 2 after his test result came back positive. Watney is the PGA Tour's first case of coronavirus.

Vaughn Taylor, who played with Watney during Round 1, shared his thoughts upon learning of his playing partner's positive test.

"I was a little shocked, to be honest. Heart started racing, got a little nervous. Just hope Nick's doing well and we get through this," he said. "I didn't have any close contact with Nick yesterday. We kept our space. We didn't shake hands. Right after the round, I washed my hands. Nick never coughed or sneezed. So I feel comfortable."

Taylor, along with groupmate Luke List and their caddies, were tested for COVID-19 at the conclusion of Round 2.
