Landry hangs on for 2nd PGA Tour title at American Express

Andrew Landry birdied the final two holes on Sunday to shoot a 5-under 67 and claim The American Express for his second PGA Tour title.

The 32-year-old entered the final round in Palm Springs, California tied with Scottie Scheffler and managed to pull away from the pack with flawless golf through the first 12 holes. He led by as many as six shots over Abraham Ancer, who was mounting a charge of his own.

However, Landry began to unravel with three consecutive bogeys and a sloppy par on the par-5 16th. He stood on the par-3 17th, home of a daunting island green, tied with Ancer.

Despite the struggles, Landry hit his tee shot to six feet on No. 17 and converted the birdie putt to regain his solo lead. He closed with a birdie on 18 to secure a two-shot victory over Ancer at 26-under par.

Landry lost in a playoff to Jon Rahm at the 2018 edition of the Palm Springs event. Prior to Sunday, the 2018 Texas Open was his only PGA Tour victory.

Ancer fired a 9-under 63 at the Stadium Course at PGA West to mark his second runner-up finish in his last 12 events.

Scheffler carded a 2-under 70 to end up alone in third.
