Patrick Reed's caddie, Kessler Karain, was involved in an altercation with a fan at the conclusion of Saturday's four-ball session and won't be on the bag for Sunday's final round.

Karain reacted to a fan heckling Reed after losing his third match of the Presidents Cup.

The incident was first described by Golf Channel's Steve Sands.

"There was a little bit of an altercation earlier today after the morning matches with Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson. Kessler Karain, the caddie for Patrick Reed, got into an altercation with one of the fans," Sands said.

"(Reed) played in the first three matches, went 0-3, was really hearing it from the fans. Reed was really hearing it from the fans and it got a little out of control there, after the match, and that’s where the altercation took place."

Karain confirmed an altercation occurred in a statement, according to ESPN's Bob Harig.

"As a caddie, one of your jobs is to protect your player. And unlike several other sports, in golf, fans can get pretty close to (the) athletes," Karain said. "We have been known for having fun with some good banter but after hearing several fans in Australia for three days, some had taken it too far. I had enough.

"I got off the cart and shoved him, said a couple things, probably a few expletives. Security came and I got back in (the) cart and left," Karain continued. "I don't think there's one caddie I know that could blame me."

Karain - who's also Reed's brother-in-law - met with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan after the altercation.

Reed did not play in Saturday's second session. USA trails in the Presidents Cup 10-8 after four sessions.
