Tiger Woods is splitting up his own dynamic pairing.
After winning two matches alongside Justin Thomas on the first two days, U.S. team captain Woods announced that he'll sit out Session 3 of the Presidents Cup in Friday's pairings announcement.
Day 3 will feature two sessions of four matches each, meaning four Americans and four Internationals will sit out each round.
Rickie Fowler will slide in beside Thomas in Woods' absence. They will be out first versus Marc Leishman and Haotong Li, who will be seeing his first action of the week.
Here are the four-ball pairings for Session 3 (all times ET):
Americans | Time | Internationals |
---|---|---|
Justin Thomas Rickie Fowler |
3:02 p.m. | Marc Leishman Haotong Li |
Xander Schauffele Patrick Cantlay |
3:16 p.m. | Sungjae Im Abraham Ancer |
Patrick Reed Webb Simpson |
3:30 p.m. | Hideki Matsuyama C.T. Pan |
Matt Kuchar Tony Finau |
3:44 p.m. | Adam Scott Byeong Hun An |
Despite the pairing of Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson going winless in two matches so far, Woods will send them out together for a third straight day. Woods also left the Patrick Cantlay-Xander Schauffele pairing intact.
Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, and Gary Woodland will join Tiger on the bench for the third session.
International captain Ernie Els elected to bench Louis Oosthuizen for Saturday morning's session despite the South African earning two points for the team so far. Joaquin Niemann, Adam Hadwin, and Cameron Smith will also be on the sideline for Saturday's four-ball.
