Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas defeated Marc Leishman and Joaquin Niemann by a score of 4-and-3 to earn the United States its first point of the Presidents Cup.
Woods put himself and Thomas in the first match and quickly set the tone. Tiger cozied a chip next to the cup on the first hole to take the lead and the American duo never looked back. Captain Woods added five more birdies to his pairing's scorecard to make quick work of the International competition.
Afterward, Thomas was asked what worked well between the two.
"Tiger was," he said.
With a dominant performance on Day 1, it's difficult to imagine Woods sitting for the remaining sessions despite vice captain Fred Couples believing Tiger would only play three times at the Presidents Cup.
