Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods top the list of big-name players packing their bags Friday night after failing to make the 1-over cut at the Open Championship.

After a forgettable 79 on Thursday, McIlroy made things interesting in Round 2 with a 6-under 65. However, the hole he dug himself proved to be too big and he won't have a chance to lift the Claret Jug on his home soil of Northern Ireland.

Woods showed no real signs of life in either of his two rounds. He shot a 1-under 70 on Friday in much easier scoring conditions but finished at 6-over for the tournament. He's missed 10 cuts as a pro in major championships, with six of those coming since the start of 2015.

Phil Mickelson's recent struggles continued at Royal Portrush. He's now missed three straight cuts and five of his last seven. His best finish over that stretch is a T-52 at the U.S. Open.

This is the first time in 83 majors contested by both Woods and Mickelson that the two of them missed the cut, according to ESPN's Bob Harig.

Bryson DeChambeau (5-over), Adam Scott (9-over), Jason Day (2-over), and reigning U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland (3-over) are other notables who bowed out early.

Former world No. 1 David Duval improved on his first-round 91 with a 78 on Day 2. However, he finished in last place at 27-over by 13 shots.
