John Daly has withdrawn from The Open after requiring emergency surgery to treat a major abdominal infection as the result of a spider bite while he was in England, he announced Tuesday.

The news comes just days after the R&A denied Daly's request to use a golf cart at Royal Portrush during the season's fourth major.

The 53-year-old Daly, who's been dealing with an ailing knee, was allowed to use a cart at this year's PGA Championship in New York. That request was granted by the PGA of America.

With Daly out of The Open, Kevin Streelman revealed that he's been added to the field.

Daly won The Open in 1995 at St. Andrew's. This year's event will run from July 18-21.
