USGA responds to vocal Justin Thomas: 'We need to talk'
The United States Golf Association used Twitter to call out Justin Thomas after his continued criticisms of the new rule changes.
"Justin, we need to talk," the USGA's communications account said. "You’ve canceled every meeting we’ve planned with you, but we are reaching out again."
The pushback stems from a tweet Thomas sent that criticized the retroactive penalty handed to Adam Schenk Saturday morning. Schenk was given a two-stroke penalty for violating the new caddie-alignment rule.
The 25-year-old defended his decision to call out the USGA, because the last time he did so, a ruling was rescinded overnight at the Phoenix Open.
Thomas also pointed out there was a lack of communication between the USGA and PGA Tour players when the rule changes for 2019 were created.
The USGA disagrees.
"We were at the first five events, and tournaments last year, and your tour has had a seat at the table for seven years," the USGA added. "We’d love nothing more than to give you a seat. Call us."
Your move, Justin.
