Justin Rose carried his torrid play from Round 1 into Friday at the Farmers Insurance Open, posting a 6-under 66 on the Torrey Pines South Course.

Through 36 holes, Rose's scorecard has just one blemish - a bogey on the difficult seventh in Round 2 - in combination with 14 birdies and an eagle.

The world No. 1 is searching for his 10th PGA Tour title.

Hideki Matsuyama is two behind Rose after posting his second consecutive 66 of the tournament. The 26-year-old was once ranked No. 2 in the world, however, after a disappointing 2018 campaign, he entered this week ranked 30th.

Jon Rahm, Billy Horschel, and Ryan Palmer round out the rest of the top five.

The low score of the day belonged to Rory McIlroy, who torched the North Course with a 7-under 65 to climb inside the event's top 10.

Tiger Woods will need a spectacular weekend if he has any chance of winning for the ninth time at Torrey Pines. He carded a second straight 2-under 70 to sit in a tie for 48th.
