It appears golf fans will have to wait a little longer to see Tiger Woods in action during the new PGA Tour season. The 42-year-old will not play the Sentry Tournament of Champions this January, sources told Bob Harig of ESPN.

Woods qualified for the event thanks to his win at the Tour Championship but seems set to skip the annual tournament at Hawaii's Kapalua Resort. The last time Woods appeared in Maui was 2005.

The 14-time major champion has until Dec. 28 to change his mind and enter the Tournament of Champions but it's more likely he will begin his 2019 schedule at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Woods has won eight times at the historic course just outside San Diego.

When Woods does eventually return to action, he will do so as a 43-year-old; his birthday is Dec. 30th.
