Charles Howell III posted a second straight 64 on Friday to extend his lead at the RSM Classic to three shots.

He followed his near-perfect opening-round performance with another bogey-free day. The Augusta native missed only two fairways and two greens in regulation to sit at 14-under through 36 holes.

Howell's 6-under round at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Resort gives him his first outright 36-hole lead since 2003, according to Justin Ray of Golf Channel.

Cameron Champ and Jason Gore are tied in second after they both fired blistering 7-under rounds of 63. The rookie Champ is a combined 63-under over his last 15 PGA Tour rounds, according to Ray.

Webb Simpson and Zach Johnson are eight shots back of Howell in a tie for 10th.
