Tiger blames fatigue for winless Ryder Cup performance

Tiger Woods believes fatigue is at fault for his winless showing at the Ryder Cup last month, pointing the finger at a long and surprisingly hot PGA Tour season for his lack of energy.

"It was just a cumulative effect of the entire season," Woods said on Instagram at an event hosted by his TGR Foundation at Pebble Beach. "I was tired because I hadn't trained for it. I hadn't trained this entire comeback to play this much golf and on top of that deal with the heat and the fatigue and the loss of weight."

Woods cited multiple events he played late in the season where the heat index was well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, adding he had no time to regain any muscle strength during his jam-packed schedule.

When asked what it would take to allow players to wear shorts on the PGA Tour, Woods joked: "I don't think you want to see my skinny-ass calves."

A tired Tiger went 0-4 for the American team in Paris, a glaring record and major reason why the U.S. squad lost handly to the Europeans 17.5 to 10.5.

"I'd like to change the L to a W," the 42-year-old said when asked what he would do differently as a captain. "It doesn't feel very good losing."

Woods also shed some light on his captaincy for the 2019 Presidents Cup set to take place next December in Australia. Tiger said he "really hopes" to be a playing captain for the event and added he will "go with the same system" as Team USA has done in the past when it comes to picking playing partners.
