Significant changes to the FedExCup playoff system will include an increase in prize money from $10 million to $15 million for the champion, the PGA Tour announced Tuesday.

As reported in August by The Associated Press, beginning next season, the FedExCup winner will be determined solely based on the outcome of the Tour Championship, and players will start the week at East Lake with a predetermined total based on their position on the points list.

The top player on the postseason points list will begin the finale at 10-under par. The next four players will start at 8-under through 5-under, respectively, while Nos. 6 to 10 will begin the tournament at 4-under par with the total regressing by one stroke every five players until those ranked 26th through 30th begin at even par.

The winner at East Lake will also claim the FedExCup.

These changes aim to eliminate awkward moments like the one that occurred last year when Xander Schauffele won the Tour Championship but Justin Thomas captured the FedExCup.

Along with the announcement of the $15-million top prize, the PGA Tour also confirmed the August report that the playoffs would be moving forward in the schedule to finish before the NFL season begins in September and cut down from four events to three.
