Tadd Fujikawa came out as gay in a post on his Instagram page Monday, making him the first male professional golfer to do so publicly, according to Dylan Dethier of Golf.com.

Fujikawa noted that his announcement came, coincidentally, on World Suicide Prevention Day.

The 27-year-old made headlines back in 2006 when he became the youngest golfer to compete at the U.S. Open at just 15 years of age. The following year, he became the youngest player in 50 years to make it to the weekend at a PGA Tour event, doing so at the Sony Open.

He has since bounced around mini tours, including the Web.com Tour and the Mackenzie Tour in Canada. Last December, he won the Hawaiian State Open.
