PGA pros not eager to watch Tiger-Phil pay-per-view match
After the announcement that "The Match" between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson is set to be a pay-per-view event, a few PGA Tour pros didn't seem overly interested in shelling out cash to watch the two legends play.
"No," Paul Casey said, according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard when asked about paying for the match. "I've never bought anything on pay-per-view. Someone else always does that."
Tommy Fleetwood also didn't seem willing to go the extra mile to watch the $9-millon match.
"Depends where I am and if it's televised where I am," the Englishman said.
"If I'm at home and it's not on Sky Sports than I won't go out of my way to watch it. But I wouldn't mind being a part of it," he added with a grin.
Brooks Koepka, the two-time U.S. Open champion and reigning PGA Championship winner, was a little foggy on the details of the match.
"Is it pay-per-view?" he said. "I think that might be Austin's (Johnson's) wedding, Dustin's brother. So if we're at the wedding, then probably not."
However, Koepka didn't back down from a future $9-million match of his own, saying he'd "be happy to do it if anybody wants to play."
Even though pricing details haven't been released, Tiger believes golf fans will be willing to pony up to watch the match.
"I think they can afford it and I think it'll be done differently," Tiger said. "How many times have we all purchased fights, whether it's MMA or it's boxing? We all purchase those fights."
The heavyweight bout between the golf icons is set to take place Nov. 23 in Las Vegas.
