Rickie Fowler won't play at the Northern Trust, as the World No. 9-ranked golfer announced he's pulling out due to a nagging oblique injury. The tournament is set to begin Aug. 23.

Fowler said he's been dealing with the injury over his last few events and discovered a partial tear in his oblique via MRI. The 29-year-old was adamant he'll be ready for the following FedEx tournaments, and to represent USA at the Ryder Cup in September.

Despite being winless in 2018, Fowler sits 17th in the FedEx Cup rankings thanks in large part to four top-10 finishes this season, most notably a runner-up at the Masters.
