Woodland tops stacked leaderboard heading to Round 3 at Bellerive
Nearly half the field returned to Bellerive early on Saturday morning to finish the second round of the PGA Championship, but nobody could catch the sizzling Gary Woodland.
Woodland's 10-under-par total was good enough to survive the morning completion of the second round and hold a one-shot lead through 36 holes at the season's final major.
While the veteran pro sits alone at the top, a stacked leaderboard filled with big names represents the chase pack for Saturday afternoon's third round. Kevin Kisner sits in solo second just one stroke back, while Brooks Koepka and Rickie Fowler lurk at 8-under.
Other names within four strokes of the lead include Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas as the players get a quick break before the third round begins.
Place | Player | Round 2 score | Total to par |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Gary Woodland | 66 | -10 |
2 | Kevin Kisner | 64 | -9 |
T3 | Brooks Koepka | 63 | -8 |
T3 | Rickie Fowler | 67 | -8 |
T5 | Dustin Johnson | 66 | -7 |
T5 | Charl Schwartzel | 63 | -7 |
T5 | Thomas Pieters | 66 | -7 |
T5 | Shane Lowry | 64 | -7 |
T9 | Justin Thomas | 65 | -6 |
T9 | Pat Perez | 67 | -6 |
T9 | Brandon Stone | 68 | -6 |
Excellent scoring conditions led to some low numbers being posted, including two 63s from Koepka and Charl Schwartzel. That is expected to continue on Saturday afternoon, meaning even Tiger Woods is still in the hunt at 4-under-par if he can go real low in Round 3.
Due to the weather delay on Friday, the field will play in threesomes for the third round, with the top half of the leaderboard teeing off on No. 1 and the bottom half playing No. 10 first.
