Kevin Tway fired a 7-under 65 in Round 2 at the Canadian Open on Friday, good enough for a one-shot lead heading into the weekend.
Tway (13-under) - whose father, Bob Tway, won the 2003 Canadian Open - will need two more birdie-filled rounds at Glen Abbey Golf Club to fend off the bunched-up leaderboard.
Eight golfers are within three shots of the lead, world No. 1 Dustin Johnson among them.
Johnson carded a 6-under 66 in Round 2, a bogey-free performance including an eagle on No. 2 to put him three shots back.
Keegan Bradley and South Korea's Whee Kim sit one shot off the pace. Bradley's second-round 63 tied for the lowest score of the day.
Notables Tommy Fleetwood and Tony Finau are six and seven shots back, respectively.
Unfortunately, the field on the weekend will lack some of the tournament's biggest names. Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Matt Kuchar, Bubba Watson and Canadian Adam Hadwin all failed to make the cut set at 4-under.
The oddest story of the day belonged to Wesley Bryan, who carded a 12 on the par-5 16th followed by a triple-bogey. He shot 82 in Round 2 but was disqualified after his round for a yet-to-be-announced reason.
