Colin Montgomerie's confidence in Team Europe for the upcoming Ryder Cup is at an all-time high after last week's Open Championship results.

"Thomas (Bjorn) is probably looking at the best team that we've had assembled, for, well, almost ever," Montgomerie told reporters Wednesday at the Senior Open Championship in St. Andrews.

Bjorn will act as Team Europe's captain for the September event in Paris, one Montgomerie thinks he should feel "very confident" about.

Francesco Molinari's win at Carnoustie last week ended a streak which saw an American win the last five majors, while Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose finished in a tie for second with two other players. Montgomerie believes these results will spread confidence throughout the team.

"Amazing what an Open victory does to a team mentality, not just (Molinari). The mentality of a European breaking an American duck, as well. It was about time Europe came in and broke that duck and we have now. That will give confidence to the rest of the lot, as well," he said.

According to the betting market, Team Europe will enter the event as a slight underdog.

Team Europe has not lost a Ryder Cup at home since 1993.
