Tiger's finish ensures spot for final WGC event in Akron
He may not have won the Open Championship on Sunday, but Tiger Woods ensured he achieved one of his season goals with a sixth-place showing at Carnoustie.
Woods' finish moved him to 50th in the world rankings, meaning that he has officially qualified for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, according to Rex Hoggard of Golf Channel.
Any WGC event is significant, but the Akron stop has added importance as Woods has won it a whopping eight times in his career. With the tournament moving to Memphis beginning next season, this represents his chance to play Firestone one final time.
Given his history at the venue and his current form, it won't shock many if he notches his ninth career win at Firestone in a couple weeks' time.
