Spieth: Ryder Cup could become a 'putting contest'
Prior to the Open Championship at Carnoustie in a few days, Americans hopeful of earning a spot on the United States Ryder Cup team were in Paris to play Le Golf National, the venue for the event in September.
Jordan Spieth was one of the notables in attendance for the scouting trip and quickly figured out how the course will play.
"I thought it was a big narrow course but it's actually more a pick-your-shot, pick-it-apart course," Spieth said according to Randall Mell of Golf Channel. "It will be a lot of wedge, short-iron control, and then it's a putting contest."
Spieth was joined by team captain Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson, Tony Finau, Kevin Kisner, and Brian Harman.

"The golf course is beautiful," Spieth added and despite his opinion that the event will come down to putting, he still believes it "will be exciting."
Of the group, only Spieth and Watson currently hold a top-eight spot in the Ryder Cup rankings. The others will need strong finishes to their season to earn a guaranteed top-eight spot or be one of Furyk's four captain's picks.
The American team will look to defend their 2016 title when the Ryder Cup begins September 25.
