David Hearn was pulled aside by rules officials after his blazing second round Friday, as they wanted to get a closer look at the putting stroke that led to his 64.
Hearn is using a long putter at the John Deere Classic, one that looks as though he is anchoring it to his chest - a method that was banned in 2016.
The Canadian gained over five strokes putting through Rounds 1 and 2 at TPC Deere Run, raising some eyebrows among tournament rules officials.
After Hearn met with them, officials didn't determine he'd committed a violation, but he did lose strokes putting in Saturday's third round.
